JOINing of copper to aluminium by ElectroMagnetic fields

As part of the call for projects Horizon 2020 - program for Research and Innovation (2014-2020) -, the commission selected the project JOIN'EM which brings together 14 European partners including PFT Innovaltech.

This project aims to study for 3 years the assembly by electromagnetic pulse of aluminum and copper to improve the performance and reduce the costs of these assemblies. The applications developed will cover different industrial sectors (transport, energy, etc.). Transferability to other material combinations will be considered so that all industrial sectors using multi-material assemblies can benefit from these results.

Questions and issues :

• Lighten the assembled structures by hybrid / composite assemblies
• Develop strategies for the design of processes and tools for electromagnetic assemblies

Objectives :

• Designing sustainable and efficient tools is a prerequisite for the industrial implementation of technology
• Simulate the process to determine loads acting, deformation, impact, conditions
